"Nazi-style dictatorship": Dissidents call for Scholz to cancel his trip to China

Chinese dissidents are asking Scholz to cancel his trip.
Numerous Chinese dissidents have asked Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) to give up his trip to China. China is "gradually developing into a new Nazi-style dictatorship," according to the letter signed by 185 dissidents, quoted by the specialist information service Table.Media on Wednesday.
The letter writers introduce themselves as "a group of Chinese ex-students, artists, writers, poets and intellectuals". The signatories include the winner of the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade, Liao Yiwu, and Zhou Fengsuo, who was one of the core leaders of the bloodily suppressed student protests of 1989. According to Table.Media, the signatories put themselves in personal danger by publishing them.
Signatories criticize human rights violations
"Mr. Scholz, please do not travel to China," the critics of the regime wrote in the letter. After the most recent party congress in October, the head of state and party leader Xi Jinping had "abused" the power of the Chinese Communist Party and was "now a true dictator". The signers of the letter also criticize numerous human rights violations and accuse the leadership of "genocide in Xinjiang, Tibet and southern Mongolia".
The government's zero-Covid policy was "stupid and cruel". Scholz is in Beijing for political talks on Friday. Meetings are planned with President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang. "Xi Jinping's current regime is experiencing one crisis after another as a result of internal and external conflicts and public grievances," the dissidents wrote to the chancellor.
