Billionaire Gina Rinehart is Australia's richest woman and a fervent Trump supporter.
The richest Australian, iron ore billionaire Gina Rinehart, has called on the right-wing in Australia to embrace policies like those of US President Donald Trump, Bloomberg reported. Rinehart is a major donor to the country's center-right Liberal Party. Her comments were prompted by the right-wing's defeat in the Australian election over the weekend. In the election, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese secured a majority in parliament for his center-left Labor Party. Liberal leader Peter Dutton, however, lost his seat.
Rinehart is an ardent and vocal supporter of Trump. On Monday morning, she said, according to Bloomberg: "Yes, the loss was devastating for the Liberals, emotionally draining for many, disappointing and worrying for many, but it's important not to throw away the truth and the ability to analyze, and instead learn from the loss and rebuild." The right-wing billionaire also compared Australia to the US and accused her fellow countrymen of "not getting it," according to the news portal.
Rinehart has a budding friendship with Trump
According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Rinehart has a net worth of $25.9 billion and has become increasingly politically active in recent months. In addition to a budding friendship with Trump – she attended his election party at Mar-a-Lago in November – she has donated a total of $500,000 to the Australian state chapters of the Liberal Party and has made frequent political speeches and commentaries. During the election campaign, Albanese's winning party repeatedly accused Dutton's party of copying Trump's policies. Dutton subsequently distanced himself from Trump.
