She receives a pension, but has also made private provisions. Angela Merkel has not been Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany for almost three years. However, she is financially secure thanks to her 16-year term in the Chancellery. She still receives money from the state treasury, but also has private investments. Merkel's main income is a monthly pension of just over 15,000 euros, according to the Taxpayers' Association. She has to pay tax on this amount in accordance with the pension regulations. The amount depends on the length of office, so Merkel's 16 years as head of government give her a particularly high amount. As Chancellor, her salary was still 35,000 euros a month. In addition, the state provides her with an office for life. The federal government also covers the costs of office management, positions for consultants, typists and drivers. After her retirement from politics, Merkel moved into an office with nine employees. They receive a monthly salary of up to 10,000 euros. For future ex-chancellors, however, the number is limited to five employees.
