Mourning the star hairdresser: Udo Walz is dead

November 20, 2020 The Berlin star hairdresser Udo Walz is dead. His husband Carsten Thamm-Walz confirms this. Accordingly, he had been in the Charité for a few days. He died of multiple organ failure. Udo Walz died this Friday at 12 noon at the age of 76. His husband Carsten Thamm-Walz, with whom the hairdresser had been in a relationship since 1994, confirmed this to the “Bild” newspaper. He explained that Walz suffered a diabetes shock two weeks ago and eventually fell into a coma. Walz had been suffering from severe diabetes for many years. He was last in a wheelchair In September it was reported that Udo Walz was sitting in a wheelchair, but he still continued to work in his salon on Berlin’s Ku’damm. Something went wrong with the pedicure, he said at the time. After a small operation everything was fine again. Udo Walz was very popular with celebrities in Germany, so much so that he became a star himself. The hairdresser also strolled through the red carpets of the capital, had himself photographed by photographers and gave interviews. He also made appearances in TV programs and shows. But it all started with an apprenticeship as a hairdresser. At the age of 18 he worked in St. Moritz, where he had first contact with big stars such as Romy Schneider and Marlene Dietrich. He later moved to Berlin, where he had his social breakthrough in the 1980s. Walz recently had three hairdressing salons in the capital, also one in Potsdam and one on Mallorca. Walz had many prominent admirers: presenter Sabine Christiansen, cabaret artist Désirée Nick, singer Sarah Connor, models Claudia Schiffer and Heidi Klum, Hollywood star Julia Roberts, supermodel Naomi Campbell and even Chancellor Angela Merkel trusted in his hairdressing skills. Entrepreneur Barbara Becker was also one of Walz’s customers, and the two were close friends.
