Robert Lewandowski is a Polish professional soccer player who plays the striker for the Bayern Munich club as well is the captain of the Poland national soccer team.He has been a full international player for Poland since 2008 and has earned more than 70 caps and was also s member of the team at Euro 2012.
Early Life
Robert Lewandowski was born on 21 August, 1988 in Warsaw, Poland. He is the son of Krzystof Lewandowski, a national judo champion as well as a football player for Hutnik Warszawa in the 2nd division, and Iwona Lewandowski, one-time volleyball player for AZS Warszawa as well as the vice president of Partyzant Leszno.
Career
Robert’s club career started at Varsovia, where he played for 7 years and then later moved to Delta Warsaw where he was in the first team, scoring 4 goals.
In the 2006-2007 Season, Robert played in the Polish 3rd division and was the top-scorer with 15 goals, which helped Znicz Pruszkow win a promotion. In the 2007-2008 Season, Robert again became the top-scorer in the Polish 2nd division this time with 21 goals to his credit.
In June of 2008, Robert was signed-up by Lech Poznan and debuted for his new team in July as a substitute in the UEFA Cup qualifier versus the Azerbaijan club, Khazar Lenkoran. He scored the sole goal of the match.
In the 2009-2010 Season, he became the top-scorer with a total of 18 goals to his credit that also helped Lech win the 2009-2010 Championship. In June of 2010, Robert joined the Bundesliga club, Borussia Dortmund for a period of 4-years, until 2014. In September of the same year he scored his first Bundesliga goal against Schalke in the Revierderby, winning the match with a score of 3-1.
In the 2011-2012 Season, Robert was part of the playing-eleven and scored twice in the club’s victory over SV Sandhausen in the DFB-Pokal first round. His league goal was scored against FC Nuremberg in a 2-0 win. In April he scored the winner goal in the match against league leaders Bayern Munich.
In the 2012-2013 Season, Robert appeared in the first day match against Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga campaign but scored his first goal in the 3-0 won over Bayer Leverkusen in September which earned his team the 3rd spot in the Bundesliga and brought the team record to 31 unbeaten matches in the league. In April of 2013, he became the 1st player to score 4 goals in a Champions League semi-final match as his team routed the Real Madrid side with a 4-1 win.
In January of 2014, Robert signed a 5-year contract with Bayern Munich and was officially introduced as a player in July of the same year. He made his debut for the Bayern side against Borussia Dortmund, which his team lost with a score of 2-0 in the DFL-Super Cup in August. He scored his debut goal for the Bayern side in the 1-1 draw against Schalke in the 2nd match of the league.
In the 2015-2016 Season, Robert scored his first goal in the 1st round of the DFB-Pokal in the 3-1 victory over FC Nottingen. In September of 2015, Robert became the 1st player ever in the Bundesliga history to score 5 goals in 8:59 minutes, making it the fastest ever in the history as well in a match which was trailing 0-1 against Wolfsburg until he was substituted. He also set the record for the fastest hat-trick (3 goals in 4 minutes) and also for the most goals scored by a substitute (5). His 5-goal streak in less than 9 minutes also became a record in any major European football league. He received 4 certificates from the Guinness Book of World Records.
In his international career, Robert made 3 appearances for Poland’s Under-21 national football team, all in friendly matches namely against Finland, Belarus and England.
His senior team debut was in September of 2008, just 3 weeks after his 20th birthday, in a match against San Marino where he scored a goal after being substituted in the 2-0 win in the FIFA World Cup qualifier.
Heights
Robert holds various records but his greatest feat is scoring 5 goals in less than 9 minutes in a match against Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga. He was substituted in the match and went on a 5-goal streak to snatch victory for his side with a score of 5-1,in the most spectacular fashion where his team was earlier trailing 0-1.
Personal Life
Robert is married to Anna Stachurska, a bronze medal-winner at the 2009 Karate World Cup since June of 2013. He also has a younger sister, Milena, who is a renowned national volleyball player representing Poland in the U-21 national team.
