New York explosion

First picture of New York explosion

The graphic image shows a man with his burned midriff on show as he lies on the ground with his hands behind his back as a police officer stands behind him.
The image has been used by the New York Post, but has not yet been verified.
It comes after the New York Mayor said the explosion ws an “attempted terorrist attack” and the suspect, who used a "low-tech bomb", is believed to have acted alone.
The terrorist was named by police as 27-year-old Akayed Ullah.

The only person injured was the suspect himself

Local media reported the man as originally from Bangladesh and there were police raids on a home in Brooklyn following the explosion.
When quizzed over whether the suspect had any ties to Islamic State, the New York Police commissioner said “he did make statements” but declined to elaborate.
Ullah was detained following the blast in the passageway below ground at the Port Authority bus terminal, but have not said what the device was.
He suffered non life-threatening injuries in the blast, while at least three other people have been hurt.
Officials said Ullah had been left with "serious" burns to his hands and stomach.
Unconfirmed reports on ABC news, citing a New York Police Department source, said the explosion may have been caused by a pipe bomb.
A source told the New York Times the man was a would-be suicide attacker with wires attached to him, carrying a pipe bomb and battery pack.
It was initially thought his device may have malfunctioned but police governor Andrew Cuomo confirmed the "low tech device" was intentionally set off.
Governor Cuomo later told CNN the attacker was "disgruntled" and had taught himself how to make the pipe bomb from the internet.
