The medical examiner's report found there was no evidence of drugs or alcohol in August's car or at the scene, although toxicology tests are still ongoing.
Her cause of death has been confirmed as asphyxiation due to hanging.
August - real name Mercedes Grabowski - had been branded 'homophobic' by Twitter users for her refusal and was forced to defend herself in the face of cruel comments.
One user even told her to "take a cyanide pill" if she wasn't prepared to apologise for her decision.
On Sunday 3 December, August had tweeted: "Whichever (lady) performer is replacing me tomorrow for EroticaXNews , you're shooting with a guy who has shot gay porn, just to let cha know.
"BS is all I can say Do agents really not care about who they're representing? ladirect I do my homework for my body."
In subsequent tweets, August - who had starred in more than 280 porn films during her years in the industry - pointed out that she had the right to decide who she had sex with, especially when it came to working with 'crossover' stars (performers who have sex with men and women).
"NOT homophobic," she tweeted in response to one follower.
"Most girls don't shoot with guys who have shot gay porn, for safety. That's just how it is with me. I'm not putting my body at risk, i don't know what they do in their private lives."
August went on: "Sorry, it was just my opinion. My body, my rules. Honestly I'm sorry if I offended anyone."
Hours later, at around 3.45am on Tuesday 5 December, she was found dead in a park just 20 minutes from the home she shared with husband Kevin Moore in Camarillo, California.
Her porn film director husband Kevin praised August as "the kindest person I ever knew", adding that "she meant the world to me".
Just weeks before her tragic death, August opened up about the long-term depression she suffered because of childhood abuse.
"It's just awful. It's still recent where I have to keep myself occupied or else I start thinking about all that s**t and then I fall into depression," she said in a podcast.
"Some days I'll be fine and if I'm not doing anything I'll get these awful flashbacks of my childhood and I get very depressed and I can't get out of bed and cancel my scenes for like a week or two."
August said she'd like to try therapy, even though she hates the word and is worried any therapist would pin the cause of her depression on her job.
"I would get in contact with some people and then I would feel badly because they'd be like, 'what's your profession?' and I'd be like, 'oh, I'm in the adult industry'.
"Then I'd feel like they're like, 'oh, that's the whole reason that you are the way you are' and then I'd get turned off."
Meanwhile, Bruce Beckham - a gay porn star who was among the Twitter users to accuse August of homophobia - appears to remain unrepentant about his remarks to her.
He'd told her: "Turns out being an uneducated homophobe DIDN'T get you a pat on the head? Maybe think next time before you word vomit for attention."
And the day after her death he reappeared on Twitter he refused to back down.
"On Monday I called out a homophobic performer for her ignorance and uneducated bias," he tweeted.
"She allegedly chose to end her own life when she was exposed to the same vitriol that gay people have been exposed to globally for decades."
He later added: "I'm sorry for her loss of life and whatever personal struggles caused her to choose to end her own life when faced with confrontation, accountability, and education."
