In a "heute-show special" on the federal election, reporters Fabian Köster and Lutz van der Horst follow in the footsteps of Annalena Baerbock, Olaf Scholz and Armin Laschet: The news satire "On the road to the chancellor's office" has bite and wit - everything that the election campaign lacks.
The hot phase of the election campaign has begun. The first "Triell" just aired on RTL, and now "heute show" reporters Lutz van der Horst and Fabian Köster are taking a look at the top candidates from the SPD, CDU and the Greens in a "special. And they do so where the votes are to be had: in street campaigns from Bochum to Hildesheim to St. Peter Ording - or as Armin Laschet says in the film broadcast on Friday evening: "Here is the Baltic Sea ... North Sea ... it was stormy."
On the coast, the top candidate is greeted by "We want Markus Söder shouts," which he bravely smiles away. "After all, it's going down and down for them in the polls," Fabian Köster provokes him, "is this the final social democratization of the CDU?" Laschet can't help smiling and replies, "No, no - it's also going up again." Köster, however, celebrates, "Now I've made them laugh, and that was the image I wanted to create in the first place." Whoever has the damage ...
Change of location. In Berlin-Spandau, Lutz van der Horst interviews Joe Chialo, a member of Laschet's "Future Team." Chialo was formerly a member of the Green Party. "They're sort of Winfried Kretschmann, only they've come out of the closet." Chialo also manages The Kelly Family, which makes van der Horst wonder, "What's the bigger challenge: managing The Kelly Family's comeback or Armin Laschet's?" Chialo: "Armin Laschet is on the way!" Van der Horst: "Yes, on the way down!"
Voter about Scholz: "He should stop grinning"
SPD Secretary-General Lars Klingbeil takes a swipe at Armin Laschet.
Could he, as a music manager, not spontaneously write an election campaign song? Chialo improvises, naming freedom, the future and love as core messages. A street musician with a guitar has to join in while van der Horst chants "love, freedom, future." "You realize now that you played an election campaign song for the CDU?" he asks the perplexed musician afterwards. "Do you know this sign?" he asks back, pointing to a tattoo on his arm: the man is a supporter of the Anarchist Pogo Party of Germany.
Annalena Baerbock (The Greens) faces unpleasant questions.
Before heading to Olaf Scholz, the reporters make a brief stop at the SPD headquarters in Berlin. There, Secretary General Lars Klingbeil is very happy about a decision made by the competition: "If the others had taken Söder, it would have been more difficult," the SPD Secretary General scoffs at the CDU's top candidate. Olaf Scholz, in turn, is not handled with kid gloves by Fabian Köster either: "Have they already thanked Armin Laschet and Annalena Baerbock?" The "biggest advantage" of the SPD man is, after all, that he is neither Baerbock nor Laschet. An SPD voter has a tip for Scholz: "He should stop grinning!"
Lutz van der Horst and Fabian Köster try to draw Olaf Scholz (SPD) out.
Annalena Baerbock promises: "You'll get a book!"
When two argue, the Greens are happy. Annalena Baerbock plays up to the people ("Hildesheim is a beautiful city!") and claims that it is always very nice when Robert Habeck stands by her side during election campaign meetings. Fabian Köster tries to provoke: "Between us, how beautiful is it really?"
Then he asks Baerbock, "If I don't mention her book in the whole interview, will I get the first exclusive interview when they're chancellor?" Baerbock counters dryly, "You'll get a book!" Köster, playfully offended: "A book? I might as well ask all the co-authors or Wikipedia." All the same, all three leading candidates prove in this somewhat different kind of candidate check that they don't lack one thing: a sense of humor.

Satire is my favourite animal by Wolfgang Hampel conjures up laughter on everyone's face. I tried it out on a somewhat serious friend whom I very rarely see smiling. Satire is My Favourite Animal by Wolfgang Hampel works wonders and I have never seen my friend so cheerful. I hope the author writes a new book soon, because this reading material is addictive - especially in times like these. You can order one of the most humorous books ever-----------------------
